With SAP announcing the retirement of SAP Identity Management (IdM) in 2027, organizations now have a three-year window to understand their SAP IdM integrations and migrate to a new solution.

However, like many legacy Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions, SAP IdM can be highly complex and deeply integrated within an organization’s IT infrastructure. Over time, the specialized knowledge required to manage these Identity systems is difficult to retain, often resulting in these systems becoming unmanaged.

If this scenario sounds familiar, don’t worry – we have a streamlined approach to help you effectively navigate the transition from SAP IdM to Microsoft Entra ID Governance.

To ensure a smooth migration, it’s essential to focus on three critical areas:

  • Understand how your SAP IdM solution is being used
  • Determine the use cases and identity workflows it supports
  • Identify the three key use cases to initiate your migration and modernization journey

Take an agile approach to migrate from SAP IdM to Entra ID Governance Accenture and Avanade are global leaders in Microsoft Security and SAP services. Our unique combination of Microsoft and SAP expertise allows us to help you understand and successfully plan your migration from SAP IdM to Microsoft Entra ID.

We can help you take an agile approach to your migration across the following steps:

1. Identity discovery First, we conduct a current state analysis by reviewing your existing SAP IdM system, including its integrations and workflows. Then, we help you define your future state with Entra ID, focusing on the initial key three use cases. This phase typically takes two to three weeks.

2. Rapid deployment We rapidly deploy Entra ID Governance and implement configurations to transition the modernized versions of the key three use cases. Post-deployment, we conduct rigorous testing, validation and piloting with your IAM teams to measure the new system’s value.

3. Factory modernization Once the key three use cases are proven and their value is clear, we shift to a factory modernization approach. This involves onboarding additional use cases and transitioning modernized workflows and applications. The final step is to complete the transition and decommission SAP IdM, ensuring a smooth cutover to Entra ID.

4. Manage, defend and evolve Post-migration, we can help you manage Entra ID Governance proactively through our manage, defend and evolve service. This enables you to leverage Entra’s capabilities to defend your identities and continuously evolve to maximize value and usage. This is achieved through ongoing application onboarding and adoption of new features.

You don’t need to go it alone Through our delivery assets and expertise, Avanade and Accenture can help you accelerate your migration project to achieve your goals with less risk.

Our extensive knowledge and experience can help you accelerate your journey to replace SAP IdM, while maximizing your investment in Microsoft Entra ID.
