Achieving what matters

Employees at pharmaceutical innovator Daiichi Sankyo are using the company’s new generative AI solution, DS-GAI, to develop ideas, assist with coding and content creation and contribute to learning and data analysis. Within two months of its full-scale release the tool gained rapid traction, with an average of 500 users per day. The positive impact extends beyond improved output quality – it’s also contributed to creating an enhanced workplace environment and shaping the overall organizational culture of digital transformation.

Inspiring change

Aligned with its 2030 vision to become an innovative global healthcare organization – and propelled by the profound, company-wide impact following the release of ChatGPT – Daiichi Sankyo leaders sought an opportunity to continue harnessing data and unlocking its business utilization for employees.

The team was interested in embracing applications for generative AI. To promote its use across the company, leaders concluded that developing a distinctive generative AI system was essential. The project was divided into two phases: deployment and post-release enhancements.

Driving innovation

Within a month, the production release of the company’s DS-GAI system was made available to approximately 9,300 employees across the company. Fueled by this success, the team then implemented functional enhancements related to GPT-4 compatibility, image generation capabilities, file analysis and more.

To support users, leaders actively promoted the internal adoption of DS-GAI through user education and awareness initiatives, including a dedicated internal website featuring resources related to the solution, plus use cases and prompt techniques. By incorporating the tool into their workflows, employees have seen remarkable changes. For example, users without programming knowledge are now able to customize applications themselves – a task that was previously outsourced.
