By giving its employees secure access to high-quality and centralized sustainability and health and safety data, Trivium Packaging (Trivium) – a global manufacturer of recyclable metal packaging – is making further progress toward its ambitious ESG goals. Their cloud-based, mobile-friendly TRIMS application is saving them time and costs, plus they can track performance, identify best practices and validate data on the fly.

Trivium leaders wanted to improve the manufacturer's emissions reporting and demonstrate its ESG progress, giving employees easier access to both sustainability and health and safety data. The spotlight fell on their in-house application for sustainability data collection, TRIMS.

Employees already used TRIMS to track metrics like product carbon dioxide emissions and water consumption levels across 50 plants. It was also used to accurately collect data around KPIs such as safety observations, training, inspections and hazards. Employees needed a better app experience, especially considering many of them travel frequently between plants. The app was built over a decade ago and could only be accessed on premises through the company’s VPN. It was time to seamlessly transition to an agile and accessible version of TRIMS hosted securely in the cloud.

We first ensured Trivium’s cloud environment was secure against cyber threats, which boosted the manufacturer's compliance and employees’ confidence in the data platform. Next, TRIMS got a refresh. The single sign-on, remote-access application, built using Microsoft Power Platform, was developed in just 10 weeks. The solution is more user-friendly, agile and extensible, with built-in data entry screens so employees can easily track KPIs and report progress to stakeholders. A notification framework reminds users to submit data, which makes life easier (and more streamlined) for everyone involved.

Throughout its journey so far, Trivium has successfully re-prioritized and achieved the digital transformation goals that will support its ESG initiatives going forward.
